Ode to Colt
This is a poem that I wrote about Colt McCoy after the Longhorns lost the national championship game. It was one of the first poems that I wrote, and now I'm in the process of trying to get it to him.
Ode to Colt
It pained me when you hurt your shoulder,
For I knew the game was probably over.
I bowed my head and began to pray.
"Dear Lord help them and don't delay.
Be with Colt and bring him back
So he can send Bama home to unpack."
The announcers announced the sad, sad news.
And I began to get the good ole blues.
Then a freshman named Gilbert came to play,
But after a short comeback it just wasn't his day.
I thought how could this be to lose like this,
It should have been a night full of cheer and bliss?
Then you stood before the camera,
To say that you were proud for Alabama.
The words you spoke brought a tear to my eye
As you said you would never ask God why.
There are so many who need to hear
Those beautiful words that came so clear.
God is the solid rock on which you stand,
And without him life would never be grand.
Although your team lost this game,
You still would honor his holy name.
Thanks for standing up for what is right,
Because you have truly won the fight.
You may not have a Heisman on your shelf,
But God comes first and not yourself.
Thanks for all that you have done,
And for putting God as your number one!
